Alabama (14-0) enters the game on a 26-game winning streak and would become the first-ever FBS team to go 15-0 in a season with a victory. It also would mark the Crimson Tide’s fifth national championship in eight seasons – all of which has come under coach Nick Saban.

Alabama’s last loss came in a 43-37 decision at home to Ole Miss on Sept. 19, 2015.

Clemson (13-1) will look to avenge last season’s loss under coach Dabo Swinney – a former Alabama player. The Tigers also will be aided by quarterback Deshaun Watson, who finished as a Heisman Trophy finalist for the second straight year.

Earlier this season, Clemson fell 43-42 at home to Pittsburgh on a late last-second field goal for its lone loss.

Prior to reaching Monday’s game at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, Alabama beat Florida, 54-16, in the SEC championship game and No. 4 Washington, 24-7, in the College Football Playoff semifinal at the Peach Bowl. Clemson took down Virginia Tech, 42-35, in the ACC championship game before routing No. 3 Ohio State, 31-0, in the College Football Playoff semifinal at the Fiesta Bowl.

In this year’s game, Alabama will be ranked No. 1, while Clemson will be No. 2. Last year, the Tigers were the top-ranked team with the Crimson Tide just behind them.

Alabama also had one loss at the time – against Ole Miss – while Clemson was undefeated.

Overall, the Crimson Tide leads the all-time series 13-3 over the Tigers with the former winning 13 straight in a series that dates back to 1900. Before last season, the two schools met as recently as 2008 when No. 24 Alabama handled No. 9 Clemson, 34-10, in a neutral-site season opener at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.

Alabama opened as a 7-point favorite against Clemson, though that figure has since dropped to 6.
